Welcome to The Home of Stevis!

Who is Stevis?

Stevis is the nickname given to a guy named Steve Arnold. Presumably, his friends felt he resembled Beavis, of the ever-popular Beavis & Butt-head.

We may never know the true extent of this strange coincidence. These same friends claim that Arnold is actually an acronym:

One of the challenges with blogging on this site is that it isn't very mobile device friendly. So, I've started blogging on Kinja. Please see my new blog here -> stevis.kinja.com

So, while I generally visit my page daily, I certainly don't pay a lot of attention to my news posts. Here's a quick recap to get me back to current.

Shortly after moving back to Chicago, we gave birth to our son, Zander. He was born a few weeks premature, but had no health issues, for which we're very grateful. He is now coming up on 2 years old (next month) and is just as crazy as his sister, Zoe. We love them both and are very happy that we ended up with two perfect children.

After a year living in a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 kids, we decided to move to a bigger place. To save money, we ended up moving farther outside of Chicago. We now live in a 3 bedroom rental house in Woodstock, with a fenced back yard for the kids and the dog. We love the area, and the amount of house we can get for the money, but the commute to downtown Chicago is rather annoying (just shy of 2 hours each way). I'm quite sure my wife will want us to move closer to work when our lease ends.

Work has been extremely busy, as expected. The reasons for moving back to Chicago, from a career perspective, have come to fruition as anticipated. I still work with a great group of people, even though my direct team has changed a bit over the past year. I look forward to seeing what excitement comes next into my life.

So, we finally moved back to Chicago. It's been a fun 4 years in Dallas, but I must say that I like Chicago, as big cities go. We ended up out in Naperville for now...we'll see what the future brings. We're renting an apartment, and after having lived in houses for a few years, it takes some getting used to. Hopefully, my kid and my dogs don't give the neighbors too much grief.

The Gym More about Printer Friendly

Have I mentioned how I'm not a morning person? Well, it's true...sadly, that doesn't seem to matter any more. About a month ago, Mindy and I joined a gym. This is primarily due to the fact that I need to lose more weight, and I need to exercise regularly to help with my diabetes. The down side to this whole experience is that the only time I really have to go to the gym is early in the morning. I am proud of the fact that I've actually done it nearly every weekday since joining, but I must say it's really messing up my sleep. For instance, with the holiday yesterday, I was annoyed that my body woke up before 6 AM, even though it didn't need to. I guess we can't have everything the way we want it, but a guy can still complain about it...right?

Loving my Nexus 7 More about Printer Friendly

As a belated birthday present, I got myself a Nexus 7 a couple of weeks ago. It's my first tablet, but my second Android device. I had the original Droid for 2 years before I switched to using a company-supplied iPhone.

It took me a little while to remember how Android does things, as I have been using the iPhone for the past couple of years, and had gotten used to it's way of doing things. It also took me a while to get all of my apps installed and settings tweaked to the way I like it. But, after a couple of weeks of tinkering, I can say that I'm totally in love with my Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean.

My primary purpose was to replace my aging Kindle, and my main reason for going with the Nexus 7 over the Kindle Fire is that I love being able to quickly upgrade to the latest Android release, without having to wait for a vendor to release a device-specific version. I also like the specs on the Nexus, even though it is possible for the Kindle Fire 2 to be similarly spec'd. In any case, I am glad I went this route.

This week has been a challenging one for our family. Sadly, our twins were unable to make it to full term. After only 15 weeks, they have left us and moved on to a better place. Thanks to all who have given us their love and prayers in this difficult time. Two weeks ago, Seth waved to us in an ultrasound, in what we now know was his way of saying goodbye. The kind nurses at Baylor Carrollton were able to get us hand and foot prints from Seth, but unfortunately, not from Peter. A few pictures are available by clicking here.
